China prices

I want the Boodie to be produced locally with organic fabrics.
The fashion designers start laughing. “That won't work Mariëlle, far too expensive. If we sew the Boodie here it will cost 160 euros each, not counting the fabric.” “But we don't want China prices!”

Now, two years later, we are launching the Boodie at €149 each. It was quite a quest, hefty pre-investment, but above all a great adventure for my husband and me. We believe that you only buy this durable product once in a lifetime. It is one size, so you can keep wearing it even if you gain or lose some kilos. The vest deliberately has no sleeves so you can wear it over your clothes in summer and winter. The fabric consists of 87% cotton and 13% polyester, so it is durable so there is little chance of it ending up in the sea. I was in complete shock when I saw a documentary about the rubbish mountains of clothes that end up in the sea in Africa.

And the smile logo at the bottom of the hem? We make that out of denim. Our sewing workshop Thread and Deed therefore needed old jeans. I rustled those up from my colleagues at the GP practice without any difficulty. I get many comments that 149 euros is a hefty price. After my comment “it is not from China”, and yes, “you have to wait 4 weeks because it is handmade”, the penny seems to drop. In this hectic world, it is good to consciously think about what you buy and why. I think this contributes to the Feelgood feeling of the lovely Boodie Feelgood hoodie.
